Be a Warrior Not a Worrier

This is a time to rebuild, to turn losses into possibilities, to move from what’s expected to what’s needed and to create the reality you’ve been wanting but haven’t had the energy, time, focused attention or means to do so.

Be a Warrior not a Worrier

This is the time for courage, creativity, compassion and community. During this time, it’s normal to fall back, to be blocked by ambiguity, unimaginable loss and the constant noise in the foreground and the background.   When there’s too much stimulation, everything is registered as important making our brains shut down. That inability to concentrate and remember anything gets layered making it even more challenging to lead.  Worry fills our mind and body.

Worrying can make you sick and and it can see early signs as it actually contributes to weight gain. Moreover, it kills brain cells, shrinks the brain, impact memory, and emotional regulation.

Shifting from being a worrier to warrior requires a change in perspective. Knowing how to heal from burnout and to step forward seeing potential and opportunity. As a monk shared with me many years ago during a personal crisis, he said I had two choices. One, make a plan and execute on it. The other path, if you can’t make a plan, just forget about it.  It can’t be more simple and elegant.

Do Leadership; You’re in control

Before you can begin on what’s next for your organization, first confirm and/or redirect your goals and north star. The answers to these questions will guide you for what’s next and to be prepared for the inevitable uncertainty that’s ahead.

  1. What do you want to fight for? What needs to be fixed?

  2. Is this a business that makes real money or side hustle or a fun idea without roots?

  3. Is this a part of my company, can it be done?

  4. Do I need to build it, acquire it or join it?

  5. What do I need to make it work: skills, time, money?

"Eyes forward. Mind focused. Heart ready."

For your team and organization, being a warrior is doubling down on strategy + purpose + people including adapting and integrating new ways of working. A plan based on facts and vision, in a steady hand with clear actions and humanity, worry and fear no longer exist.. Opportunities, mental toughness and growth are the road map.

To move forward in a new model start here:

  1. Pick something big, knotty and meaningful

  2. Get a small squad to give you objective guidance

  3. Expected disruptions, even ambiguity; learn to surf

  4. Know what you need: time, money, well being

  5. Invest in smart people

  6. It takes the same amount of sweat equity to do something small as it does big.

  7. Get a guide to keep you on track
